Is Today's Weed Worth The Price?

SEA OF GREEN

Time and technology have a way of compressing prices over the long term. Ten years ago the average price of a 55" flat screen tv was $2500. That same size tv is now $450.

When I was a young man an eighth of weed sold anywhere from $25 to $50. The expensive stuff was called hydro or endo or occasionally someone would have red bud. We never knew the strain names. If it had a good nose, looked decent, and had overall bag appeal you were good. Fast forward, ahem, 30 some years and that same bag is roughly the same price. In mature markets the wholesale price of cannabis may be tumbling but much of that has not been passed on to the consumer... until now.

Last week Denver's indie rag

by some local brands to cater to a more price conscious crowd. I would also argue that there is significant overlap with this audience and the NO BS crowd. I like to try out new things but the rate at which cannabis cultivators are putting out "new" strains defies the logic and timeline of any other type of plant breeding. Even with the most advanced breeding techniques on average it takes 10 years to release a new cultivar of rice... and people have been working on rice for a pretty long time. Are these really new innovations or just remixes? Are consumers being tricked into paying more for what is essentially the same stuff? There will always be people looking for new ways to spend money and relay their status to the world through a blunt of Zzoopy or whatever the hell is on the top shelf this month. I'm an old school head. Gimme mine in a ziplock - hold the

and silly names please.
