Make Weed Fun Again

Make Weed Fun Again

SEA OF GREENBy Duncan Cameron, SOW Consulting LLCJuly 14, 2023

Remember when weed used to be fun? It was an adventure. The best kind of adventure. We didn't care about THC levels, what strain it was or what it came in as long as it wasn't a bag of oregano. Going to your dealer's house (or car) was exciting... maybe too exciting sometimes.

Then the treasure hunt to find a blunt and a place to smoke. There wasn't any testing. Man I miss that. Smoking weed was cool. It was what the cool kids did. It put you in a group with Snoop and Redman, Marley and The Stones. Basically all of my heros. Dudes who had style and a, "I don't give a fuck" attitude.

Now we get our buds in a child proof pop top. And it's plastic no less.

Sneaking around the corner to smoke a roach was far more satisfying than waiting in line for the next strain drop. And even though it was probably 12% at most, I used to laugh so hard - I mean super ab crunch style belly laughs.

Now it seems everyone's goal is to get catatonic. Or maybe that's just the subculture.

If the cannabis market ever wants to expand beyond what it has traditionally been we need to shed some of these old ideas.

We're never going to get back to where it was cool (sorry kids), but we can broaden the audience. We can bring in the people who can't sleep, athletes with pain, soccer mom's who need to drown out some screams and folks who don't want to or can't drink.

As much as I want to go get a sack, skate down to the park, twist one up and have a couple of runs on the court, I know those days are over (for a variety of reasons). Just like the days of cool are over for marijuana.

Let's stop chasing meaningless testing numbers.

Let's stop with the silly names.

Let's turn the page and recognize the big, beautiful world of potential consumers out there who just want to chill and not be hyper paranoid.

Let's make weed fun again.
