I have been putting a lot of thought lately into what established paradigms really do to and for us. Sure, it's important to focus your view in order to be more efficient in getting to whatever your stated goal is. But that comes at a price. Having a narrow focus keeps you from seeing the possibilities that exist on the periphery of your vision. Specializing may make you a heart surgeon but won't help you come up with the theory of evolution, think that scratching a record is a good thing or discover penicillin. Thinking outside of the box requires that you give yourself the freedom to push the envelope and accept what you actually see, not what you think is right.
