Building a Better Mousetrap

How do you build a better mouse trap? Yes, I know, it's cliche but guess what? People are still figuring out new ways to catch mice. And other people are still buying the latest trap. I like to call this the, "Radio Shack" effect. The cops start using the radar gun. Radio Shack comes out with the radar scanner.

In this case though the mousetrap is an indoor grow.

In the early days of the industry most players were coming in from the underground. And grows reflected that underground aesthetic. People were hand watering, cutting up buildings into small rooms and generally acting like their operations were a big basement.

It's nice to see how far the industry has come. People are far more sophisticated these days. Real ag people are getting involved and the old school heads who see the writing on the wall are capitalizing on their hard earned knowledge of the plant by boning up on plant science themselves.

But this is not just about plants. In order to have a successful cultivation operation you have to have broad based knowledge of buildings and systems. For example -

• Do you know how to read building plans?

• Do you know how big of an electrical service you're going to need?

• How about the difference between latent and sensible load?

  The list goes on and on. And that's before you start to hire people. Then the real fun begins.
